What were the impacts of the floods?

A

Due to population density of 200 people per sqkm:
14 million people were affected
1.2 million houses were damaged/destroyed
A fifth of the who;e country was submerged
1.7 million acres of farmland was wasted including crops which caused the cost of food to double/triple. The cost equaling 1.5 billion pounds on agriculture alone

What were the responses?

A

In Punjab, an army used boats/helicopters to save 30,000 people in the space of 72 hour, by the end of the first week they had rescued 100,000 people
-An appeal for 295 million pounds was raised launched by the United Nations to cover the first 3 months, although only the UK, Italy, USA, Australia and Kuwait had given more than $5 million.
By the end of August, media attention had faded dramatically along with the donations
