Case Study: Charlie's Garden (Coastal feature) Flashcards
Name a coastal feature in your chosen area.
Charlie’s Garden (stump)
How is a cave first formed on a headland?
When a headland is made from more resistant rock (dolerite) the bay is usually softer rock (boulder clay), which is easily eroded by sub-ariel processes. This leads to the headland prone to more weathering, which leads to caves being formed.
How is an arch formed?
An arch is formed when two caved either side of be headland break through due to erosion.
How is a stack formed?
There is more erosion on the headland from percolation and infiltration, weighing the dolerite down. Over time gravity also leaves it under pressure and when the rock breaks off it forms a stack.
How is a stump formed?
The stack is open to the most erosion from both sub marine and marine processes, which weakens it, making it slump into a stump.
Where is Charlie’s Garden?
Seating Sluice (colleywell bay)
What PLC would you use in Charlie’s Garden case study?
- Location (Seaton Sluice)
- Hard rock (dolerite)
- Soft rock (boulder clay)
Put (arch, stump, stack and cave) in chronological order.
1) Cave
2) Arch
3) Stack
4) Stump
Give five causes of flooding.
- Precipitation/rainfall
- Impermeable surfaces
- Steep valley sides
- Geology (types of rock)
- Deforestation
