an in depth study of an individual or small group of people

involve many techniques- interviews (with individuals or families and friends), psychological tests, experiments etc…

A
they are useful studies for unusual behaviours
they also have increased validity as the provide rich, in-depth data of what they are intending to research

A
they can lack generalisability due to the small sample
the researcher may also not be objective as they are very involved in the research case
