What was Typhoon Haiyan?

A

Typhoon Haiyan started in the north west of the Pacific and in Philippines at 9am Friday. It then travelled towards the south of Vietnam and reached there at 9am Sunday. This happened on the 8th November 2013

•long period of wet weather lasting several weeks-350mm rain fell in January and Feburary 100mm above average
•rivers had not been dredged for 20years and had become clogged with sediment
•high tides and storm surges swept water up rivers from the Bristol Channel

•villages were completely cut off impacting people’s daily lives
•power cuts
•residents evacuated to temporary accommodation for several months
•1400 hectares of agricultural land was under water for 3-4 weeks
