What’s the definition of an ECHO response?
Allows earlier recognition & faster response based on extreme conditions of breathing, or other dire circumstances as defined.
What situations are considered Not Breathing? (Purple)
“Not breathing at all”
UNCERTAIN Breathing
Hanging
Strangulation
Suffocation
COMPLETE Obstruction
Drowning arrest - out of water
Underwater (DOMESTIC rescue; specialized/non-specialized)
In what situation do we classify UNCERTAIN Breathing?
Where it’s a 2nd party caller is uncertain, unsure, ambiguous if the unconscious patient is breathing.
When and how to use AGONAL Breathing?
When caller’s response to breathing assessment is questionable. 8 seconds per breath or longer is considered ineffective/agonal.
(These 2 symptoms supersede checking for breathing. “Making funny noises” means he’s still conscious. If he’s unconscious, no need to check for agonal.)
What is De Luca’s law?
EMD’s shall follow protocols per se, avoiding freelance questions unless it enhances, not replaces written protocol questions/scriptures.
