Carton Boards Flashcards
Four common carton boards
Folding boxboard, corrugated board, solid white board, foil-lined board
Advantages of using carton board?
Total graphic coverage and excellent print quality. Excellent protection in structural nets.
Composition of folding boxboard

Corrugated board composition
Contracted from a flutes paper layer sandwiched between two paper liners
Solid white board composition
Made entirely from pure bleached wood pulp

Consists of a laminated foil coating (can be used on the other boards). Foil available in Matt or gloss finish and in silver or gold colours.
Folding boxboard applications
Widely used for the majority of food packing and for all gentle carton applications.
Corrugated board applications
Protective packaging for fragile goods. The most commonly used box-making material.
Solid white board applications
Packaging for frozen foods, ice cream, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Foil lined board applications
Cosmetic cartons, pre-packed food packages.
Properties of folding boxboard
Excellent for scoring, bending and creasing without splitting - excellent printing surface -relatively inexpensive
Properties of corrugated board
Excellent impact resistance - excellent strength for its weight - low cost - recyclable
Properties of solid white board
Very strong and rigid - excellent printing surface (expensive)
Properties of foil-lined board
Very strong visual impact - fold provides an excellent barrier against moisture (expensive)
