Carter Fascia Lecture Flashcards
What is the embryonic precursor of Pannicular Fascia?
Somatic Mesoderm
What is the embryonic precursor of Investing Fascia?
Somatic mesoderm
What is the embryonic precursor of Meningeal Fascia?
Somatic cephalic mesoderm (spinal cord and brain stem)
Neural Crest cells (Brain stem proper/ telencephalon)
What is the embryonic precursor of Visceral Fascia?
Splanchnic Mesoderm
What cytokine is secreted by myofibroblasts and is important in wound healing?
TGF-Beta
Sharpey’s Fascia is part of what subtype of fascia?
Investing Fascia
Facial muscles insert into what subtype of fascia?
Pannicular fascia
This fascia is continuous with nerves.
Meningeal fascia
The pulmonary ligament, broad ligament of the uterus and ligament of trietz are part of what subtype of fascia?
Visceral fascia
What subtype of fascia surrounds epaxial and hypaxial muscles?
Investing fascia
What type of strength/support does collagen and elastin provide?
Tensile Strength
What type of strength/support does ground substance provide?
Compression and expansion strength to hold things together.
Overexpression of TGF-Beta results in what pathology?
Fibrosis
List the steps in the fibrosis cycle.
Chronic irritation -> M-Phage recruitment -> Inc in vascularity -> Inc Fibroblast activity -> Inc CT production ->Inc metab activity -> CT shrinkage- Abnorm movement dysfunction -> chronic irritation
What are the 4 stages of healing?
- Haemostassis (immediate)
- Inflammation (1-5days)
- Proligeration (5-21 days)
- Remodeling (3weeks -2 yrs)
What is the function of Fibroblasts?
They respond to tension and growth factors and make ECM
What is the function of Fibrocytes?
They are mature fibroblasts that maintain CT
What is fascia?
It is diffuse irregular fibrous CT.
What mechano receptors are found in Pannicular fascia?
RPG- Ruffini, Pacini, and Golgi-mazzoni.
How is fibromyalgia diagnosed?
If a person aches all over and has 11/18 trigger points that are tender to 4kg of pressure.
Ms. Fine is a 45 year old nanny who comes in to the office complaining of aches and pains all over. She has fatigue, headaches, some depression. Her records state that she has a Hx of IBS. 16/18 trigger points across her body are tender/painful to 4kg of pressure. What is her likely diagnosis?
Fibromyalgia
What is the definition of pannus?
Pannus is a dense layer of fatty tissue growth consisting of subcutaneous fat in the lower abdominal area.
