Carly notes (Physics) Flashcards
What is force?
A force is an interaction between 2 objects. It is a push, pull or a twist.
What type of force is gravity
Gravity is a non-contact force
What type of force is magnetism
Magnetism is a non-contact force.
What type of force is applied force?
Applied force is a contact force
What type of force is friction?
Friction is a contact force.
What type of force is tension (Spring)
Tension (Spring) is a contact force
What are the 5 main forces?
- Gravity
- Magnetism
- Applied force
- Tension (Spring)
- Friction
What type of force is static electricity
Static electricity is a non-contact force.
What is a contact force?
Contact force is a force that acts on objects through physical contact.
Does the force have to be unbalanced to an object to move, and why?
A force does not have to be unbalanced for an object to move because if the object is already moving and it stays at the same speed (it doesn’t accelerate), then it is a balanced force.
What is a non-contact force?
Non-contact forces act on objects without physically touching the object
What is a reaction force>
A reaction force is a reaction to another force that equals it in the opposite direction e.g. if gravity is pulling an object down, the ground provides a reaction force that equals gravity by pushing the object up with the same amount of force. If two opposing forces are balanced the stronger the force will be in the direction the object ACCELERATES (not moves) in.
