Who is a carer
Someone who provides unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member/friend/partner
Advantages and disadvantages of using the term carer
Adv: helps identify need, give recognition to demands made on carers, offers sense of identity
Disadv: may lock people into a role they do not want, labels person in terms of responsibilities, person cared for may feel undermined
