These professionals should communicate with each other to make sure the patient’s course of treatment is carried out as effectively as possible and makes the whole process more manageable for the patient

This value does relate to geographical accessibility, but also means that every person should have equal access to the health care system regardless of socioeconomic status, culture, age or level of illness

This value encompasses two aspects:

• People are treated with respect - this includes things like confidentiality, privacy and including the patient in decision making
• The health system is client orientated- people are at the centre of the health system as opposed to factors such as politics

This relates to reaching desired goals in an optimal timeframe. This could relate to seeing an appropriate number of patients, the level of improvement achieved by individuals within the system, or the number of people screened for certain conditions

Care that is appropriate is care that is relevant to the patient’s needs and based on current standards. This means that two patients with the same condition may be treated differently as a result of cultural needs, preferences for different types of treatment or the stage of the condition

This relates to patients being safe whilst using the health care system. The environment should enhance health rather than detracting from it. So the area should be clean and free from potential threats to health
