Function
How it works and how well it works
Anthropometric Data
This is the measurements of the human body and is used for all objects humans use
Market Pull
This is how business has a need for a new product
Technology Push
the lust from businesses means that technology develops to fill this hole
Bending
The ability to withstand forces by the material bending.
Compression

Shearing
the resistance to forces sliding in opposite directions
Tension
the resistance to forces pulling in opposite directions
Torsion
The ability to withstand twisted forces
Hardness
The ability to resist abrasive wares. A materials hardness can change with the weather
Durability
Over time, how long the material lasts
Toughness
the ability to withstand shocks or sudden blows
Brittle
The to not withstand sudden blows
Malleability
The ability for materials to be shaped in only one way, shape or form
Elasticity
How much a material can be bent or shaped and then it return to it’s own shape
Ductilness
How much a material can be pulled in to shaped
Fusibility
the ability for a material to melt at a certain temperature.
Conductibility
Thermal, electrical conductors allow electricity or heat to pass along them. insulators do the opposite.
Opacity
How dark or light a material is.
Types of Plastics
Thermo/Non-Thermo Plastics
Eg: PET, HDPE, PVC, PP, HIPS, PMMA
Metals
Ferrous/ Non Ferrous metals. Then Alloys/ pure metals
EG: Anything with Iron/ Aluminium, copper, etc
Ceramics
Clay
Timbers
Manufactured Boards/ Softwoods/ Hard wood- Temperate materials/ Tropical hardwoods
EG: Chipboard, Pine, Mahogany
