Cardiovascular System Drugs Flashcards
These are drugs that accelerate the rate of urine formation that results to the removal of sodium and water from the body
Diuretics
It is indicated for the treatment of Glaucoma, Edema and High Altitude Sickness
Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors
It is a non-absorbable solute that increases osmotic pull in the filtrate which produces a rapid diuresis
Mannitol
A drug that works on the collecting ducts and DCT by blocking the aldosterone receptor
Spironolactone
These are diuretics which are chemical derivatives of Sulfonamides
Thiazides
These are Adrenergic Drugs that act on the brain by decreasing Norepinephrine production
Central Acting Adrenergic Drugs
These are Adrenergic Drugs that act on the heart and blood vessels
Peripheral Acting Adrenergic Drugs
These are drugs for hypertension and adjunct for heart failure
Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers
These drugs block calcium from the excitation-contraction coupling process in heart and vascular smooth muscle cells resulting to vasodilation
Calcium-Channel Blockers
These are drugs that directly cause peripheral vasodilation
Vasodilators
These are mainstay prophylaxis and treatment for angina
Nitrates and Nitrites
These drugs are most effective treatment for exertional angina
Beta-Blockers
This is a pathologic state in which the heart is unable to pump in sufficient amounts from the ventricles to meet metabolic needs
Heart Failure
These are drugs that increase the force of myocardial contraction
Positive Inotropic drugs
These are drugs used for systolic heart failure and atrial fibrillation
Cardiac Glycosides
