Cardiovascular system Flashcards
Function
Circulates blood to and from cells in order to transport nutrients and remove waste.
Pulmonary circulation pathway
Carries deoxygenated blood away from the right ventricle to the lungs where it is oxygenated then returned to the left ventricle.
Systemic circulation pathway
Carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to capillaries in the tissue around the body. The deoxygenated blood is then returned through the right atrium of the heart.
Difference between artery and vein
Arteries conducts blood away from the heart.
Veins conduct blood towards the heart.
Chambers of the heart
Right ventricle, right atrium, left ventricle, left atrium.
Valves of the heart
Pulmonary valve, tricuspid valve, aortic valve, mitral valve.
