Cardiovascular system Flashcards
Where does the right coronary artery supply blood to?
Right atrium, right ventricle, SA node - AV node (Important for conduction).
What are the symptoms of a RCA blockage?
Bradycardia
Conduction problems
What type of blockage is a RCA blockage?
inferior blockage
Where does the left coronary artery supply blood to?
Left ventricle, major muscle.
What is effected by a LCA blockage?
Blockage = massive heart attack. Blockage = poor perfusion to the muscle. Depends on where the blockage is. High or low. Left blockage pump problems.
What is the leading cause of atherosclerosis?
Endothelial injury
What are the 3 stages of Atherosclerosis?
1) Fatty Streaks
2) Raised fibrous plaques
3) Complicated lesion
What consists of the Fatty Streak stage?
fatty deposits begin to build up in an artery that is normally smooth. Early as age 15.
What is a treatment of Fatty Streak stage?
Treatment that lower LDL cholesterol may reverse this process.
What consists of the Raised Fibrous plaques stage?
characterized by a thickening of the arterial wall as the blood components adhere to fatty deposits of the damaged endothelium. By age 30. HTN, Smoking, hyperlipidemia can also cause this to worsen.
What can worsen raised fibrous plaques stage?
HTN, Smoking, hyperlipidemia can also cause this to worsen.
