Cardiovascular Mechanisms Flashcards
1
Q
What are the arteries?
A
Passageways of blood from the heart to the tissues.
Pressure must be maintained but not too high.
2
Q
What are arterioles?
A
Major resistance vessels.
3
Q
What are capillaries?
A
The site of exchange of gas, nutrients and water between blood and tissues.
4
Q
What are the veins?
A
Capacitance vessels (contain most of the blood volume during rest). Passageways of blood from tissues to heart. Venous return must provide heart with sufficient blood to pump.
5
Q
What regulates the heart rate?
A
The autonomic nervous system mainly.
6
Q
What regulates the stroke volume?
A
Pre-load, myocardial contractility and after load.
7
Q
What is the sum of cardiac output?
A
CO= HR x SV
8
Q
How is mean arterial blood pressure regulates?
A
By regulating HR, SV and SVR
9
Q
What is the sum of MAP?
A
MAP= CO x SVR
MAP= DBP + 1/3 Pulse Pressure
