Cardiovascular dz of other species Flashcards
How does application/interpretation of ECG differ between species?
Atria- then ventricles- then repolarisation
P- then QRS- then T
some species have an SV wave due to depolarisation of the sinus venosus which precedes depolarisation of the atria = additional waves
small species = small intervals + viceversa
What are the challenges of echocardiography between species?
High heart rates need high frame rate
small hearts need high frquency transducers (good resolution)
large hearts need low frequency transducers (good penetration/depth of field)
adequate imaging windows
What are the limitations of radiography between species?
patient size: ability to penetrate the thorax
species anatomy
non mammals: air sacs, relationship of heart to lungs
