Q

What other ways can CVD be treated?

A

Diet and exercise - first option.
Antihypertensives - reduces blood pressure.
Statins - reduces LDL (low density lipids).
Blood thinners - e.g. aspirin, makes it easier for blood to pass through.

Q

Disadvantages of heart transplants…

A

Donor availability - donor has to die extremely healthy, along with same/similar heart structure to patient.
Failure/rejection of donor heart.
Natural scars - leads to narrowed arteries.
Infection - during the medical procedure, the body is fully open, and is susceptible to several infections.
