Cardiovascular And Circulatory Flashcards
Endocardium
Smooth and delicate
Inner lining of the atria and ventricles
Myocardium
• Muscular wall
• Makes up the bulk of the heart
• Left ventricle is especially thick to force blood through the arteries leading to every part of the body
Pericardium
• Thin but sturdy outer membrane
• Has two layers of its own:
1. Visceral pericardium adheres to the myocardium
2. Parietal pericardium contains the whole heart like a sac.
Pericardial cavity
Between the visceral and the parietal layers is the pericardial cavity, which is a fluid-filled space.
septa (singular, septum).
The four chambers of the heart are divided by walls called
interatrial septum
partitions the two atria,
interventricular septum
separates the ventricles.
Atrioventricular valve
Connects atrium and ventricle
