cardiovascular Flashcards
What factors affect diffusion? Can we rely solely on diffusion for farther distances or for large organisms?
proxiimity of locations
t (time it takes for diffusion) is proportional to the d(distance)^2
What are the components of both circulatory systems (open and closed)?
a muscular pump
circulating fluid
blood vessels
What makes the open circulatory system open
no distinction between circulating fluid and extracellular fluid (this is called hemolymph)
What is the role of blood vessels?
transport, regulation of blood flow, secreting various chemicals, controlling blood pressure
What are the different types of arteries? How do they differ? What are their functions?
differ by layers of tissues they have, diameter
elastic arteries (conducting) - ex. aorta or pulmonary trunk. Elastic arteries provide major force of blood movement throughout the body and must be able to withstand a lot of pressure bc of proximity to the heart
**muscular arteries
