cardiorespiratory system Flashcards
what is the myocardium
the heart muscle
what will an electrical impulse in a cell cause
an action potential being spread to the other cells of the atrial leading to a coordinated contractile mechanism
what is the direction of blood in the heart
right atria - tricuspid valve - right ventricle - lungs - left atria - bicuspid valve - left ventricle - whole body
what are the two phases within the heart
systolic, diastolic
what is the SA node
The hearts neural pacemaker - electrical impulses are generated here
what is the AV node
sends AV node impulse into the ventricle.
what is the neural pathway in the heart
SA node sends out electrical impulse which causes the atria to contract. AV node slows down impulse for a split second then continued down the bundle of his into the ventricle, this is split into two with the bundle of branches and into purkinje fibres in order to activate the two ventricles
