Cardiomyopathies Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 types of cardiomyopathies?
A
- Dilated: most common, mostly familial, dilated LV which contracts poorly/has thin muscle, most common non-familial cause is ethanol
- Hypertrophic: most common cause of sudden cardiac death in young, caused by sacromere proteign gene mutations like Troponin T and B-myosin, hallmark is myocardial hypertrophy in the absence of HTN/valvular disease
- Restrictive: usually not familial, caused by amyloidosis/sarcoidosis, presents similarly to pericarditis

A
Cardiac catheterization**
Echo**
ECG
CXR

Q
Tx for cardiomyopathies
A
For dilated and restrictive: cardiac transplant, diuretics, ACE-I, bblockers, digoxin, warfarin
dilated has very poor prognosis
hypertrophic: amiodarone, bblocker, CCB, anticoagulate
