Cardiomyopathies Flashcards

1
Q

Types of cardiomyopathy and their possible presentations

A

Acquired
Inherited

Can present in a variety of ways

Q

HOCM

  • pathophysiology
  • presentation
  • findings on diagnosis
  • management
A

AD - most common cause of SCD in young
-diastolic dysfunction => low CO

~~~
Asymptomatic
If symptomatic
-SOBOE, chest pain
-syncope post-exercise
Can lead to ventricular arrythmia, HF => SCD
Echo
Ejection systolic murmurs - MR
-increases with Valsalva
-decreases with squats
SAM of ant mitral valve leaflet
Asymmetric hypertrophy
Amiodarone
Bb/verapamil for symptoms
Cardioverter defib
Dual chamber pacemaker
Endocarditis prophylaxis
Drugs to avoid
-nitrates
-ACEi
-inotropes
