Cardiology Flashcards
what is the R border of the heart?
from 3rd right CC, 1cm lateral to sternal border
to the 6th right CC
which is the L border of the heart?
from 2nd left ICS, 2.5 cm from sternal border
to 5th ICS at midclavicular line
what is the upper border of the heart?
from 3rd right CC, 1cm lateral to sternum
to 2nd L ICS, 2.5cm from sternal border
what is the lower border of the heart?
from 6th R CC
to 5th ICS at MCL
where does the apex of the heart sit?
Left 5th ICS at MCL
when percussing the heart, what does an expanded area of dullness indicate?
dullness to mid-axillary line
cardiomegaly or pericardial effusion
where does the V1 lead go?
right 4th ICS next to sternum
where does the V2 lead go?
left 4th ICS next to sternum
Where does the V3 lead go?
left 5th ICS b/ V2 and V4
where does the V4 lead go?
left 5th ICS at MCL
Where does the V5 lead go?
Left 5th ICS at anterior axillary line
where does the V6 lead go?
left 5th ICS at MAL
where do you auscultate the aortic valve?
RIGHT 2nd ICS at sternal border
where do you auscultate the pulmonary valve?
LEFT 2nd ICS at sternal border
where do you auscultate the tricuspid valve?
LEFT 5th ICS at sternal border
where do auscultate the mitral valve?
LEFT 5th ICS at MCL
at location of apex beat
what order do you auscultate the valves in?
aortic, pulmonary, tricuspid, mitral
where do you listen for valve sounds?
listen downstream from flow of blood through valves
so site of auscultation of heart valves differs from anatomical location
