Cardiff uni Flashcards
How long is the course?
3 years
What modules am I most looking forward to? (first one)
CARDIFF
Healthy children in society
The reason for this is because I will learn the impact that society has on the health and wellbeing, as well as their development on children. From this I will learn that child nursing is not only about the medical part of things, but also the social side has an impact on the child’s development. This links well to Co-ordinating care of children in diverse environments which is another module.

Quality, safety and decision making in children’s nursing care
When doing child nursing, you are not only working with the child, but also with the parent or guardian. This can make it harder to make decisions, however I will be able to learn the safest way of treating the child. It is important that the guardian is aware of the procedures.
What qualification you will receive at the end of your course?
Undergraduate (child nursing)
Why you have chosen not to study this course in your home country.
CARDIFF
Cardiff University is ranked 1st in England and Wales and 3rd in the UK for Nursing in The Complete University Guide 2021. This motivated me into wanting to study at a high standard university, in addition to this I want a new experience. I believe that I will not only gain an undergraduate award, but I will also learn how to manage independently. Furthermore, it will enhance my skills of learning in a new environment and adapting to it.

What are you most looking forward to about being a nurse?
Being able to help people and provide them with care. That’s one of the reason’s I chose to study children’s nursing because I feel that at a young age the human body is more interesting about things as a child. This made me realise that by treating young people, I am also educating them in a way of showing them how to live a healthy lifestyle and teach them what is wrong and right.
Can you tell us about a time that you had to work in a team in a high pressure situation?
Primark retail, working with many customers with different backgrounds can be hard. However, I made sure that the customer understood what I was saying, and I would always listen to them.
What are the 6 C’s of nursing?
The 6Cs – care, compassion, courage, communication, commitment and competence
Why you think you’re good for the role?
I am hard-working and resilient; this means that I don’t like to give up and like to do tasks to the highest of standards. I believe that this is important when being a nurse because it shows that you are determined to help treat the patient. I am aware that being a nurse is a challenging role because you have to work with different people, with complex needs. I know I can deal with challenges and can work well under pressure.
Why do you want to be a nurse?
I want to be a nurse because since my childhood, I have suffered with a skin condition which meant that I had to frequent the hospital for further medical attention of which this meant that I to be seen by different medical professionals and one of them were the nurses. The nurses were caring, supportive, empathetic and compassionate. This inspired me in wanting to be like them, so I can care for other children and young people with similar conditions or other complex needs. In addition to this, nursing has always been an inspiration of mine because I like the idea of helping people. I chose child nursing specifically because I can help people from a young age and teach them to lead a healthy lifestyle.
What do you think will be most challenging about this course?
It’s not only about working with the patient, but it also includes working with the parents/ guardians which can make it harder because you must take into consideration their opinion.
What are the NHS values?
Improving life, respect & dignity, everyone counts, compassion
Commitment to quality of care, working together for patients
A personal experience of how I have used the NHS values?
NORTHUMBRIA
Respect and dignity, when working in Primark i had to make sure that customers were respected. This meant treating them equally and not discriminating someone. This is important because it makes the individual feel safe in the environment they are in and minimises the risks of anything harmful happening to them.
