Cardiac Physiology Flashcards
What is Perfusion
Perfusion is the flow of blood through arteries and capillaries delivering nutrients and oxygen to cells an removing cellular waste
What are the two componenets of Cardiac Output?
Heart Rate (HR) and Stroke Volume (SV)
What is stroke volume?
quantity of blood pumped out of theleft ventricle with every heart beat.
What is hypertension
Blood pressure that is consisantly high.
What are some risk factors for HTN?
Obesity, sedentary lifestyle, hight fat, salt and sugar content, family history, high alcohol intake, medications ( contraceptive pills, NSAIDS, glucocorticosterids), drug misuse, renal disease.
What is normotesive BP?
Normal blood pressure, 120/80
What is stage 1 (mild) Hypertension?
Greater than 140/90
What is stage 2 ( moderate) hypertension?
Greater than 160/100
What is stage 3 ( severe) Hypertension?
Greater than 180/110?
What is isolated systolic Hypertension?
Systolic over 160 and diastolic under 90. This is an isolated event and could be in response to emotion, pain or stress.
What assessments would you fo to assess end organ damage or cardiovascular risk due to hypertension?
Urinalysis- look for blood or protien in urin whih could mean problems with renal function
Blood Tests: Creatinine, electrolytes, lipid profile
ECG- to assess for signs of left ventricle hpertrohy ( enlarged left ventricle).
