Cardiac Drugs Flashcards
Drug that performs its action by blocking sodium channels
Lidocaine (IV)
When is Na+ blockers used
After an MI they are used to prevent tachycardia cardia
What do beta blocker do
They block the beta 2 receptors which stops sympathetic innnervation and slows down the heart rate
Name on drug that is a k+ channel blocker
Amioderone
What do K+ blockers do
They prevent depolarisation and thus reduce the number of action potentials that can be produced in a minute lowering the HR
Name on example of a Ca2+ antagonist
Verapamil
What do Ca2+ do
They block th e Ca2+ channels and they decreases the force of the contraction, decreases the slope of the action potential and decreases the speed of conduction at the av node
What is adenosine
It is produced endogenously but also can be given IV to enhance K+ conductance and it s is an anti arrhthmic
Name one example of an ace inibator
Peirndopril
Name one angiotensin II blocker
Losortan
Name a diuretic
Furosemide
Name a cardiac glycoside
Digoxin
Name a beta adenoreceptor agonist
Dobutamine
Nam eon e major anti platlet drug that is often given post a MI
Aspirin
What do organic nitrate do
They stimulate venodilation and arteriole dilation
Decreases preload ( reduces work load of the heart) & increases the supply of O2 to tisssues to help the recover faster.
Given as a spray under the tongue
