Cardiac conduction system Flashcards
What does the heart conducting system consist of?
SA node AV node The Bundle of His The left and right bundle branches The Purkinje fibres
What does diastole mean?
Period of time when the ventricles are relaxed
What does systole mean?
Period of time when the ventricles are contracting
What is atrial systole?
The contraction of the atria. 70% of blood flows from atria to vesicles. As the atria contacts blood pressure in each atrium rises forcing this final 30% of blood into the ventricles
What is ventricular systole?
The contraction of ventricles. The left and right ventricles contact and eject blood into the aorta and pulmonary artery
What is diastole?
The relaxation of atria and ventricles
What is an ECG?
Electrocardiogram which records the electrical activity of the heart over time
What is sinus rhythm?
The normal rhythm of the heart.
What is digoxin?
Medication which can slow heart rate and help the heart beat more regularly
In an ECG what is the P wave?
Caused by depolarization of atrial muscles in response to SA node triggering
In an ECG what is the QRS complex?
Caused by the depolarization of ventricles triggers main pumping contactions
In an ECG what is the T wave?
Ventricular repolarization
In an ECG what is the PR interval?
Time from onset of atrial activation to onset of ventricular activation
In an ECG what is the ST segment?
Beginning of ventricle repolarization
The group of modified cardiac muscle cells that delays action potentials between the atria and the atrio-ventricular bundle is called the?
AV node
