Cardiac Cell Biology Flashcards
1
Q
How is cardiac muscle similar to skeletal muscle?
A
Both have a basal lamina, are striated, have similar contractile proteins, and have a similar mechanism of contraction.
2
Q
How is cardiac muscle different from skeletal muscle?
A
- Involuntary control
- Myocytes are smaller
- There are 1-2 centrally located nuclei (not 100)
- Cardiac cells bifurcate, whereas skeletal cells only branch when they are sick
- Cardiac tissue is very vascularized
- Cardiac muscle has a lot of mitochondria
- Cardiac cells have a lot of myogobin
- Cardiac cells have a lot of lipid droplets
- MB- creatine kinase and cTnl
- Intercalated discs
