Cardiac Arrest Flashcards
Cardiac arrest can be classified into cardiac vs non cardiac or reversible vs irreversible. State the 8 reversible causes of cardiac arrest
*Think 4 H’s and 4 T’s
What are the shockable rhythms?
What are the non-shockable rhythms?
Shockable
- Pulseless ventricular tachycardia (pVT)
- Ventricular fibrillation (VF)
Non-shockable
- Pulseless electrical activity
- Asystole
What rate do you do CPR?
100-120 per minute
What is chest compression:breath ratio?
30:2
How often can you give IV adrenaline?
Every 4 minutes
What does this ECG show?
Is it shockable?
- Pulseless ventricular tachycardia
- Shockable
What does this ECG show?
Is it shockable?
- Ventricular fibrillation
- Shockable
What does this ECG show?
Is it shockable?
- Asystole
- Not shockable
What does pulseless electrical activity look like on ECG?
- Any organised rhythm (but pt is pulseless and not breathing)
- Idea that there is electrical activity but no pulse can be felt
During a cardiac arrest, you would have called for help. When help arrives you need to delegate; describe how you would delegate if there were 4 other people to help you?
You would step back and manage the situation and hence appoint others to do the following:
- Chest compressions
- Defib
- Airway
- Odd jobs/rotate in for chest compression
