One of 2 ways - you either turn it on - wait for it to turn on the open up the front of the defib machine

How many do you give?
Press ‘energy select’
200 for first
300 for second
360 for third
What are the different causes of a cardiac arrest?
4Hs
4Ts
Hypothermia, Hypoxia, Hypovolaemia, Hypokalaemia or other metabolic disturbances
Tamponade, Toxins, Tension pneumothorax, Thrombus
How do you assess for hypothermia in a cardiac arrest?
Check the patients temperature
How do you assess for hypo/hyper kalaemia or other metabolic disturbances in a cardiac arrest?
ABG, U&Es, BM
How do you assess for hypovolaemia in a cardiac arrest?
How do you treat?
Any obvious bleeding/loss of fluids?
Treatment is with a fluid bolus
How do you assess for hypoxia in a cardiac arrest?
How do you treat?
ABG
Also ask the person with the bag valve mask if they are easy or difficult to ventilate.
Treat with securing the airway and giving high flow O2
How do you assess for tamponade in a cardiac arrest?
ECHO (done whilst breaths are being given)
How do you assess for a thrombus in a cardiac arrest?
ECHO (done whilst breaths are being given)
How do you assess for toxins in a cardiac arrest?
Find out what medication they have been given/what medication they came in with
How do you assess for tension pneumothorax in a cardiac arrest?
Assessed clinically - e.g percussion, auscultation, tracheal deviation etc
