Cardiac Flashcards
Costochondritis
Located at the anterior rib and sternal junction. Reproduce with deep inspiration or palpation.
Slipping rib syndrome
Sprain by trauma to costal cartilage of 8th, 9th, 10th ribs. Clicking or popping with bending or flexing
Visceral pain
Diffuse, deep, poorly localized from organs and body cavities.
Somatic
Localized from chest wall, pleura, MSK
Anxiety, Nausea, Diaphoresis, Dyspnea
Consider M.I. and angina

Consider hyperventilation
Leg swelling or pain
Consider PE

Consider pneumonia
Dysphagia, belching, vomiting, diaphoresis
Consider GI
pluses alternans
pulse amplitude alternates every other beat. found in left sided heart failure
pluses paradoxus
Decrease in systolic pressure during inspiration of >10 mmHg. Found in cardiac tamponade, asthma, or COPD.
