Carbon Cycle Flashcards
How is carbon passed through the ecosystem through living and nonliving things?
Living things pass carbon through respiration, carbon is recycled through the soil and is found in dead animals and is released through the nitrogen cycle.
How does deforestation, burning fossil fuels and burning organic debris can affect the carbon cycle?
Deforestation would result in less photosynthesis taking place meaning there is less carbon being recycled. Burning fossil fuels and burning organic debris releases excess carbon into the atmosphere which disrupts the carbon cycle since there is lots more carbon that needs to be recycled.
How can affecting the carbon cycle lead to climate change?
More carbon in the atmosphere means the enhanced greenhouse affect can occur. The enhanced greenhouse affect is the additional heat retained due to the increased amounts of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Explain Carbon Capture and storage as a positive method humans are using to reduce atmospheric CO2
Carbon capture is trapping carbon in an isolated deep underground. This means CO2 can be grabbed from the power plant and can be made into greener energy.
What are carbon stores?
Fossil Fuels and Limestone are the main carbon stores.
