Carbohydrates Flashcards
What are 3 common monosaccharides?
•glucose
•fructose
•galactose
What is the name of the bond between monosaccharides?
•Glycosidic 😎
How are disaccharides formed? (3)
•condensation of monosaccharides
•forming glycosidic bond
•releasing water
What’s maltose made from?
• 2x glucose molecules
What’s sucrose made from?
•glucose
•fructose
What’s lactose made from?
•glucose
•galactose
I’m looking for 3 things that are reducing sugars.
•all monosaccharides
•maltose
•lactose
The OH on beta-glucose issss….
High.
Bc,, only beta’s get high? Alpha men don’t need to period.
What is glycogen made from + where is it found?
•alpha glucose
•animals (liver and muscle cells)
What makes glycogen a good storage polysaccharide?
•compact, large quantities can be stored
•Insoluble, no osmotic affect
•highly branched, glucose can be added/removed easily
Why is glycogen compact?
• 1,6-glycosidic bonds
• causes branching
• so more compact
Why is glycogen insoluble?
Too large so polar regions/hydrogen bonds don’t interact with water, preventing dissolving.
What is starch made from + where is it?
• your mums belly fat
•alpha glucose
•plants 🌱
What 2 molecules make up starch?
•Amylose
•Amylopectin
Structure + function of amylose?!
•COILED
> nothing else is coiled. ever. Alright? Idk why you seem to think every thing you ever effing encounter with glucose is coiled but you need to cut ts out. It’s not on.
•UNBRANCHED (1,4 only)
•COMPACT
•STORAGEEEE
