Carbohydrates Flashcards
CARBON, HYDROGEN, OXYGEN
CARBOHYDRATES
the primary energy source of the human body. The different saccharides that humans eat are converted to glucose which can be readily used by the body.
CARBOHYDRATES
2 type of Carbohydrate
Simple sugar / complex sugar
one molecule of sugar such as glucose, fructose, and galactose
MONOSACCHARIDE
two molecules of sugar, combination of monosaccharides. It can maltose, sucrose, lactose. be
DISACCHARIDES
These are made up of number (usually a Small 3-10) of sugar molecules bonded together. They are found in some vegetables and legumes.
OLIGOSACCHARIDES
Composed of many molecules of sugar. Some polysaccharides are for storage form such as glycogen and starch. Some are for structural, such as cellulose and chitin.
POLYSACCHARIDES
