What does the Union Executive consist of?
The Union executive consists of the President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister, and the Council of Ministers. Its main work is to look after the administration of the country.
What are the qualifications required to be the President of India?
a) He/she must be a citizen of India.
b) He/she must be at least thirty-five years of age.
c) He/she must be qualified for election to the Lok Sabha.
d) He/she should not hold an office of profit under the government.
When can an emergency be declared by the President?
a) National emergency (Article 352): In case of threat to India’s security due to war or external aggression.
b) State emergency (Article 356): In case of breakdown of law and order in a state. It is also called President’s Rule.
c) Financial emergency (Article 360) in case of loss of financial stability of the nation.
Write any four Powers and Functions of the Prime Minister of India.
a) He/she is the elected head of the country and is responsible for the internal and external affairs of the government.
b) He/She coordinates activities between the President and Cabinet and keeps the President well-informed about decisions taken by the government.
c) He/She has the power to expand the Cabinet.
d) He/She is the main spokesman of the ruling party or the government.
List the Functions of the Council of Ministers.
a) The Council of Ministers’ foremost function is legislation. It prepares the
special address to the Parliament, Ordinances and Government bills.
b) The financial responsibilities of expenditure and income lie with the Cabinet.
c) The Cabinet forms the internal and external policies which the ministers carry out with the help of government servants.
