How is CAE transmitted?

A
  • Primary vertical from Dam -> kid (Colostrum management + heat treatment of colostrum – subpasturisation temperature to prevent the transmission)
  • Horizontal transmission w/any secretion containing mononuclear cells

What are the clinical signs of CAE in adult animals (give 3)?

A
  • Large swollen knees with DJD changes
  • Symmetrical firm swelling of mammary gland
  • Inability to maintain weight
  • Loss of production ability

• AGID and cELISA – problems with both consult with the lab to decide which one to use
