What is the cause of CAE?
A
• Retrovirus (Lentivirus)

How is CAE transmitted?
A
- Primary vertical from Dam -> kid (Colostrum management + heat treatment of colostrum – subpasturisation temperature to prevent the transmission)
- Horizontal transmission w/any secretion containing mononuclear cells

What are the clinical signs of CAE in adult animals (give 3)?
A
- Large swollen knees with DJD changes
- Symmetrical firm swelling of mammary gland
- Inability to maintain weight
- Loss of production ability

What is the two main methods of testing for CAE?
A
• AGID and cELISA – problems with both consult with the lab to decide which one to use
