Capabilities, Limitation and Positioning Flashcards
Capabilites
asses pressence of arterial disease
combined with doppler velocity or volume pulse wave
cannot discriminate between stenosis and occlusion, precisely localize area of
obstruction
nore discriminate between
CFA and external iliac disease
calcified vessels render falsely elevated
doppler pressure
ex: diabetes, end stage renal disease
uncompensated chf may result in decreased
ankle/brachial indices
artifactually elevated high thigh pressure when narrow cuff used on
thigh
difficult to interpret in presence of
multi level disease
the following conditions preclude taking a segmental limb pressure:
dvt, dialysis access, lymphedema, stent. bypass graft, pt who has mastectomy
pt should rest
20 minutes prior to exam
supine with legs about same level as
heart
why would you want pt supine
so that hydrostatic pressure cannot affect BP measurement
