Ngo5 jau5 gwong2 dung1 waa2 lou5 si1 (I have a Cantonese language teacher) When the subject is a person , jau5 means ‘to have’.
⾹港有好多餐廳。
hoeng1 gong2 jau5 hou2 do1 caan1 teng1 (In Hong Kong there are a good many [very many] restaurants). When the subjec tis a place, jau5 means ‘there be’.
Language note:
Subject 有冇(jau5 mou5) Object 呀(aa3)? Unlike other yes-no quesions, 有冇(jau5 mou5) is the question form for ‘Do you have…?’. 冇(mou5) is the negative form for 有 (jau5).
