Cantilever Flashcards
What are the 4 parts of a Cantilever Upright
Column, Heel, Base and Toe
What are the three assembly components attached to the Cantilever Upright
Arms, Vertical Brace Panels, and Horizontal Brace Panels
What is the difference between horizontal brace panels and vertical brace panels?
Vertical brace panels are welded frames (vertical, horizonal and diagonal members), while horizontal brace panels are simple structural beams
What are the two standard measurements of an arm
Arm Thickness & Usable Load Surface
What are the three basic factors in designing cantilever system?
- Unit to be stored
- Method of handling
- Area to put it in
What determines the length of a cantilever arm?
Depth of the storage unit
Storage unit can be several units
What is the ideal arm arrangement for a storage unit and why?
Two-arm support, typically spaced at a distance equal to 1/2 the length of the storage unit.
This is ideal for minimum cost and maximum handling ease.
What is the proper weight distribution for cantilever arms?
Equal weight on both arms (unit centered if weight is equally distributed across unit)
What 2 factors determine Arm Thickness
Arm capacity and Arm length
What 4 factors determine number of arms per upright
1) Height of Storage Unit
2) Thickness of Arm required (+2-3.5” working clearance)
3) Clearance under overhead obstructions
4) Maximum extended height of lift equipment
How do you determine upright capacity?
Required Number of Arms x Arm Capacity
How do you determine upright height?
Base Height + (Arm to Arm Height x # of Arms Required) + 3” (max height of top connector)
Arm to Arm Height = Arm Height + Storage Unit Height + Working Clearance
What determines bracing?
Upright height determines type and amount of bracing required.
Bracing is required between two uprights, but not more. Customer can request more if desired.
