Cancers Flashcards
What is the histology of Burkitt’s lymphoma?
medium-sized basophilic myphocytes with high proliferation index
What is the histology of Kaposi’s sarcoma?
large cells, big nuclei, prominent nucleoli
What paraneoplastic syndrome is associated with neuroblastoma?
opsoclonus-myoclonus= non-rhythmic conjugate eye movements associated with myoclonus
What is the most common type of pineal gland tumor?
germinoma
What hormone secreted by a germinoma causes precocious puberty in a male?
beta-hcg
What syndrome do pineal gland germinomas cause?
Parinaud syndrome- compression of the tectal area of the midbrain –> impairment in upward gaze and convergence
What are markers for small cell carcinoma?
neuron-specific enolase, chromogranin, synaptophysin, neurofilamentS!!!!
What are markers associated with non-small cell carcinomas?
EGF-receptors, mucin, surfactant associated proteins
What type of cancer is the vimentin marker used to dx?
sarcomas
What marker is valuable for differentiating malignant lymphomas from poorly differentiated neoplasms of other types?
LCA (leukocyte common antigen), aka CD 45
What is a marker for angiosarcoma?
PECAM1- aka CD 31
How do you differentiate between T-cell and B-cell ALL clinically?
T- cell tends to form a mediastinal mass that can lead to SVC syndrome or dysphagia
What are some markers of B-cells?
CD10, CD19, CD20
What are some markers for T-cells?
CD2, CD3, CD4, CD5, CD7, CD8
What is CEA a marker for?
colorecetal and pancreatic cancers
