Q

Why is cancer relevant to your age group and how can you change you lifestyle to reduce the risk of cancer?

A

Cancer is relevant to my age group because we are the ones who can grow up to find cures, new procedures, and technologies that may help. You can change your lifestyle to reduce your risk of cancer by avoiding tanning beds, standing in front of microwaves, no smoking, no drinking, and more.

Q

What does metastasis mean and how is it significant in cancer mortality rates?

A
  • How cancer spreads from one place to another.
  • It is significant in cancer morality rates by the fact of how many people in the population may be dying due to cancer depending on how quickly the cancer is spreading.

Q

What happened to Steve Jobs and if you agree or disagree with his decision to put of surgery? Why?

A

What happened to Steve Jobs is he developed his first cancer cue at age 23. Then, at 29 years old the tumor spread to his liver (the doctors found this out when he was 49 years old.) His tumors spread to his lungs when he was 29 years old. Because the cancer had been developing for so long that him delaying the surgery didn’t really affect the time he had left to live. Therefore, I agree with his decision to put off surgery.

Q

List the 6 people that made significant contributions about cancer and explain their notable findings and the impacts they had on the future of cancer research.

A
  • Hippocrates: First characterized cancer
  • Galen: Classified four tumors
  • Vesalius: Dissected the Human body
  • Van Leeuwenhoek: Visualized cues
  • Virchow: cues come from other cues
  • paget: secondary tumors prefer certain organs

A

The percentage of people in a study/treatment group still alive for a given period of time after diagnosis. (Example: for cancer they use the 5 year mark for cancer patients.)

Q

Age-adjusted Morality Rate

A

Death rate that controls for the effects of differences in pop. Age distribution (Example: it is 214.7 deaths per 100,000men for cancer.)

Q

Population statistics & risk factors

A

Population statistics can be used to calculate risk factors for cancer by showing the coronation and sequence of data. (Example: the statistics of phones causing brain cancer calculate low risk factors of causing brain cancer because it most likely won’t happen)
