What is a neoplasm?
new and abnormal growth of tissue
What is a hyperplasia?
increase in cell division
What is a metaplasia?
replacement of normal differentiated tissue by another differentiated type
What is dysplasia?
loss of tissue organisation
What is Anaplasia?
loss of differentiated phenotype
What is a tumour?
Neoplasm that is enlarged in size, can be benign, pre- malignant or malignant
What is a cancer?
Extensive growth of cells that display uncontrolled invasion, and have lost normal cellular morphology
What is the main differences between tumours and cancers?
In cancers metastases occurs and anaplasia occurs
What kind of cells will you see in malignancies?
pleomorphic- loss of uniformity and cohesion
nuclei will have more chromatin
