A

RADIOTHERAPY
- hyposalivation
- mucositis
- radiation caries
- taste loss/ change
- trismus
- disturbed tooth development/ eruption
- ORN (doses > 60 Gray)
- secondary malignancies

CHEMOTHERAPY
- immunosuppression
- bleeding
- mucositis
- taste loss/ change
- disturbed tooth development/ eruption

BONE MARROW THERAPY
- immunosuppression

presentation of mucositis & mx

A
  • appears 3-15 days after chemo/radio
  • usually on non keratinized mucosa

MX:
- good OH
- frequent use of bland, non medicated, non alcoholic mouthrinses (eg saline, bicarb mouthrinse! chx not recommended)
- soft, bland diet
- oral cooling with ice water, ice chips in mouth
- stop denture use until mucositis resolves
