Neoadjuvant therapy
A
- Initial chemotherapy aimed at shrinking the primary tumour.
- Makes local therapy less destructive or more efffective.

Adjuvant therapy
A
- Follows a definitive treatment of the primary disease where there is a high risk of sub-clinical metastatic disease

Handling cytotoxic drugs
A
- Trained personnel
- Designated pharmacy area for reconstituting cytotoxic drugs.
- Protective clothing/cover eyes
- Pregnant staff should avoid exposure.
- Females of reproductive age should be informed of the risks.
- Local procedures for spillages and safe waste disposal.
- Monitor staff exposure

A
Should only be dispensed if they are prepared for administration

A
- Should have access to written protocols/treatment plan when prescribing or administering ongoing cytotoxic medicines
- Protocols include guidance on monitoring + treatment.

A
- Confirm prescribed dose is appropriate
- Prescriptions must NOT be repeated unless specialist instructs
- Patient must have written information on their oral anti-cancer regimen which includes treatment plan and monitoring arrangements from original hospital protocol.
- Pharmacists must have access to this information and advice from experienced cancer pharmacist in initiating hospital
