Niagara Peninsula

A
  1. Largest and most important quality production area.
  2. Located between the southern shores of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.
  3. Continental climate with short, hot summers and long extremely cold winters with frost damage.
  4. The vineyard are possible here due to the temperature-moderating influence of the large body of water and the circulating air flows generated by the particular shape of the Niagara Escarpment.
  5. This is minimise frost damage in the spring and extend the growing season in autumn and reduce fungal disease.

Grapes wines in Niagara Peninsula

  1. Riesling does well here. Making fresh, pure fruited dry and off-dry whites, and the finest Icewines.
  2. Icewines is made from a range of varieties also black.
  3. Vidal grape. It is hybrid hardy. With a little character when made into a dry white. It is used for excellent Icewines, although without the acid structure and aromatic complexity from the Rieslings.
    Good quality of Chardonnay in clean, pure fruit and restrained oak.
  4. Bordeaux blend also with Pinot Noir,
  5. Lake Eire North Shore it is the most sunshine hours in Canada and more warm, it is a microclimate ideal for grapes to grow. VA is Pelee Island and Lake Erie.

British Columbia in Canada

  1. The second most important area in Canada for production is the Okanagan Valley, 300 km east from Vancouver.
  2. different VQA to reflect local terroir.
  3. Planted in semi desert conditions on the edge of the Sonoran desert.
  4. Climate is continental. Lakes moderates temperatures.
  5. Vinifera and hybrids planted, with success Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer.
