A
Two pricing policies:
- Carbon tax; fee added to burning fossil fuels
- Cap-and-trade; government regulation limiting the amount of emissions by handing out permits that can be traded

- Specifies minimum charge on 21 different fuels
- Provinces choose their pricing as long as they meet the minimum
- Several did not set their own policies so the minimum backstop was applied - Output-based pricing system for those who produce over 50k tons of CO2eq/year

A
- Aims to enshrine commitment to net zero emissions into law by 2050
- Framework with milestones every year with targets plans and reports
- Critiques: no targets before 2030, no penalties for not reaching targets, can be repealed by future governments, limited control over provinces

- Provides overall and independent assessment of the current climate action in Canada
- Confirms Canada’s governments are taking action but the work is far from done
- Over half of the governments didn’t have targets, and only two that had targets met their goals
