name the 3 main features of ADHD
A
- inattention (significant difficulty in sustaining attention to tasks that don’t provide high level of stimulation)
- hyperactivity (excessive motor activity and difficulties remaining still)
- impulsivity (tendency to act in response to immediate stimuli without deliberation or consideration of risks)

what are the main management options for ADHD?
A
Mild-moderate: consider parenting and school interventions 1st
Severe (5+ yrs): METHYLPHENIDATE (Ritalin)

describe the MOA and main ADRs of methylphenidate
A
MOA: CNS stimulant - dopamine/NA reuptake inhibitor
ADRs:
- nausea, abdo. pain, decrease appetite and weight
- headache and somnolence
- psychiatric Sx e.g. depression
- tachycardia, arrythmias, cardiotoxicity
