Camera controls Flashcards
1
Q
aperture
A
- a control that allows control of the amount of light passing through the lens into the camera
- the wider the aperture the smaller the f number and the more light can pass through
- each increase is known as a stop
- small f number can make image soft, larger f number can make it sharp although to large diffraction occurs
- changing the aperture affects the depth of field
2
Q
Depth of field
A
how much of the images foreground or background is in focus
- high dof= most of the picture is in focus
- low dof= focusing on is pin sharp but the rest of the image/ background is blurred
3
Q
shutter speed
A
- ensures that the camera is only exposed to light for a certain period of time
- the longer the shutter speed is open for the more light that hits the camera sensor
- by doubling the amount, we increase exposure by a stop
- short shutter speed= freeze action
- longer shutter speed= blurs moving objects (motion blur)
4
Q
exposure
A
underexposed- duller image rather darken resolve by increasing brightness on photoshop
over exposed- brighter image harder to resolve
- a compromise of aperture and shutter speed will be needed for correct exposure
5
Q
ISO
A
international organisation of standardisation
- increasing ISO the camera applies amplification to the electrical signal form the sensor
- too high of an ISO can cause the image to become grainy
6
Q
reciprocity
A
the reciprocity law is the relationship between shutter speed and aperture this applies to ISO also
- doubling the time the shutter remains open or increasing the aperture size by 1 stop will double the exposure (for correct exposure there will need to be a compromise of aperture and shutter speed)
