A
- persons head from the neck up
- > shows people´s reaction by means of their facial expression
- > reveal character´s emotions
- > show intimacy -> the viewer is invited to a very intimate moment

extreme close up
A
- e.g. only the eyes or mouth; no background detail
- > audience can identify the true feelings of the c.
- > releases certain emotions either of happiness, sadness, frightened, pity (Mitleid) etc.
- > can be used for dramatic effect

medium shot
A
- a figure from the knees/waist up
- > normally used for dialogue scenes or to show some detail of action
- > Variations: two shot (2 pers.); three shot (3 pers.); more than 3 -> long shot

full shot
A
- entire body(head to feet),without showing much of surrounding
- > not make out many facial expressions or emotions, but the characters SURROUNDING
- > used for character entrances

long shot
A
- shows the image as approximately “life” size ie corresponding to the real distance between the audience and the screen in a cinema
- > most realistic for audience; giving a sense of being part of the scene action and having involvement
e. g. a group of people

extreme long shot
A
- > used as a scene-setting
- > audience immediately know the setting and can take from what the atmosphere would be

over-the-shoulder shot
A
- > gives the audience a true reflection of the characters point of view and how they must be feeling at that point
- > audience feel part of the story

low-angle shot
A
- camera placed below the actor´s eyes, looking up
- > makes characters look larger and more powerful
- > characters look more dominant, aggressiv, ominous

high-angle shot
A
- above the object, looking down on it
- > makes the c. look smaller than normal
- > it emphasizes a character´s weakness or powerlessness
