calorimetry Flashcards
1
Q
poorly insulated calorimeters
A
- do not allow the energy content to be determined accurately
- Need to extrapolate to the time when the calorimeter was swtiched on to be able to determine an appropriate change in temperature
2
Q
Random errors affecting calorimeter
A
Not all the food/ substance is combusted in the calorimeter
-> energy content lower than should be -> determine for only food ACTUALLY combusted
Incomplete cobustion in calorimeter-> energy content lower than should be - lack of oxygen leading to less energy being released per amount of food combusted
temperature recorded when food combusted was inaccurate- change in determined energy content
Can be overcome by repeating experiment multiple times to determine inaccurate results
